Finally passed MTM after failing twice — here's what actually worked

I'm not going to sugarcoat it — this exam kicked my butt the first two times. I've been a pharmacy tech for six years and thought my experience would carry me through, but the MTM-specific content is way more clinical than I expected. Topics like medication therapy reviews, comprehensive medication reviews, and documenting drug therapy problems tripped me up constantly.

What finally clicked was finding a solid MTM practice test and actually drilling it instead of just re-reading the PCAB standards over and over. I spent about three weeks doing timed practice questions every morning before my shift, and my weak areas became really obvious fast. The study guide I ended up using broke down the five core elements of MTM services in a way that actually made sense for real patient scenarios.

For anyone currently studying, my biggest exam tips are: don't skip the billing/documentation sections (I lost points there twice), and memorize the difference between CMR and TMR cold. What resources is everyone else using? Happy to share more details about what the question format actually looks like.

This resonates so much. I passed on my second attempt last spring and the practice questions were the turning point for me too. My preceptor kept telling me to read the literature but honestly the exam tests application, not recall. I'd also add — really understand the workflow from identification through follow-up. They love scenario questions where you have to decide the next step in the MTM process. Good on you for sticking with it.

Congrats on passing! Quick question — how many practice questions did you go through total before you felt ready? I'm sitting for mine in about six weeks and I'm not sure if I'm doing enough. I've done maybe 150 so far but some of the drug therapy problem classification questions still feel shaky. Did you use any specific breakdown for how to split your study time between the different content domains?

The TMR vs CMR distinction got me on my first attempt too. Once I made a simple two-column cheat sheet comparing them side by side it finally stuck. Drilling that one concept alone probably added a few points. You've got this — third time's the charm for a reason!
