Okay so I'm not gonna lie, I was pretty embarrassed when I failed the Montana DMV knowledge test the second time. I'd been driving for years in another state and figured I could just walk in and wing it. Wrong. Montana has some specific rules about passing distances for livestock and right-of-way at unmarked intersections that I completely blanked on.
What finally clicked for me was actually sitting down with a proper MT DMV practice test instead of just skimming the handbook. I did maybe 200-300 practice questions over about a week and started noticing the patterns in what they actually test. The real exam is 33 questions and you need 27 correct, which sounds easy until you're staring at a question about blood alcohol limits and second-guessing yourself.
Anyone else studying for this right now? Happy to share which topics tripped me up the most. The road signs section is more detailed than you'd think, and they love asking about school bus stopping rules. Took me about 6 hours of focused prep total before I finally felt confident walking in.
