I scored a 52 AFQT and my air force recruiter said I should retake it to qualify for the technical jobs I'm interested in (avionics, cyber systems). She didn't make it sound like a problem, just said a higher score unlocks more options. Is it common to retake the asvab test, or does that look bad?
I also want to make sure I'm preparing for the right subtests. From what I understand, the electronics information and arithmetic reasoning line scores matter most for avionics. So I've been heavy on those rather than just the general AFQT composite.
Honestly the full ASVAB practice test breakdown on this site helped me see which subtests I was underperforming on. Turns out my mechanical comprehension was dragging me down. Anyone else retaken and seen a big jump? I want to know if the extra prep time is worth delaying my ship date by a month or two.
That's really reassuring, thank you. Going to commit to the full eight-week prep cycle before rescheduling. Mechanical comprehension and electronics are my main targets now.
Totally normal — tons of people retake. The Air Force actually encourages it if you have a specific job goal. I went from 58 to 81 on my second attempt by focusing specifically on the electronics and arithmetic sections. A month of targeted prep is nothing compared to the job you'll land.
