So I finally got my MES certification last week and honestly I'm still in shock. Failed my first attempt back in February by 4 points — four points — and spent the next three months completely rethinking my approach. The first time around I just read through the manual and figured that'd be enough. Spoiler: it wasn't.
What actually made the difference was grinding through a solid MES practice test bank consistently, like every other day for six weeks. I'd do 30-40 questions, review every wrong answer, and write a one-line note on why I got it wrong. That pattern recognition really sticks. I also found a MES study guide that broke down the maintenance management and reliability sections way better than the official material does — those two domains wrecked me in round one.
For anyone prepping right now, my biggest exam tips: don't skip the asset management lifecycle questions, they show up constantly, and time yourself strictly during practice. I was consistently running over on the longer scenario questions. Anyone else retaking or currently studying? Happy to answer questions.
