Failed the HSP — what to do differently the second time

Got my results yesterday and didn't pass. I'm frustrated but trying to stay focused on what to fix rather than dwelling on it. Writing this partly to process it and partly because I know others will be in the same spot.

My weakest area was study guide — I knew going in that it was shaky but underestimated how much the exam weighted it. The questions weren't unfair, I just didn't have the depth I needed.

I'm rebuilding my study plan around the hsp research and scientific foundations and going much slower this time — no more rushing through topics I think I know. Also going through hsp test to fill in the conceptual foundation I was missing. Planning to take 7 more weeks before rescheduling.

Anyone else been through a HSP retake? What specifically changed in your approach that made the difference?

This is exactly the thread I needed. I sit for my HSP in 4 weeks and have been second-guessing my prep. The practice test area you mentioned is definitely my weak spot. Thanks for the honest breakdown.

For the people asking about study timelines: I studied 80 minutes per day for 10 weeks working full time. It's absolutely doable without burning out. The key is consistency — missing days hurts more than extending your timeline.

Late to this thread but wanted to add — the practice test section trips up more people than any other part. If you're scoring below 71% there in practice, treat it as your only focus for at least a week before moving on. Breadth at the expense of depth in that area is a common mistake.

Bookmarking this. I'm still in the early stages of HSP prep and threads like this are way more useful than generic study guides. The specifics about practice test are particularly helpful — that's the section I've been avoiding.

For what it's worth — I've taken the HSP twice now. First attempt I underestimated the study guide questions. Second time I focused almost exclusively on applied practice and passed comfortably. The difference is real.
