MTC online vs in-person exam — any difference in difficulty?

Went through this exact question when I was prepping. The MTC material on "MTC" is actually not as bad as it looks — once it clicks it clicks.

What helped me was finding one resource that explained it from first principles instead of just giving me the "right answer." Made a huge difference on the scenario-based questions.

Also: don't underestimate the importance of reviewing your wrong answers more than your right ones. I learned more from 20 wrong answers than 200 correct ones.

On the "MTC exam" stuff specifically — I found the practice tests here were actually harder than the real exam on those questions. Which was great because going in I felt more prepared than I needed to be.

The time pressure is real though. I came in with maybe 8 minutes to spare and that was after skipping the ones I wasn't sure about and coming back.

Don't try to cram the night before. Seriously. Last-minute stress makes you second-guess things you actually know.

I work full-time and was studying in whatever spare minutes I could find, so the scheduling flexibility of online was huge for me. I did my prep in bits and pieces over a few months, even used free marine technician fuel cooling systems practice questions on my lunch breaks. Honestly the online format wasn't harder at all once I got the proctoring software set up.

If you've got a quiet room at home go for it. The testing center adds commute stress on top of exam stress and you don't need that. Just make sure your internet is reliable and test the setup the night before. That's the one thing that tripped up a coworker of mine.
