I have the option of taking my ISO 20000 Certification exam online at home or going to a testing center. Trying to figure out which is better for me.
Arguments for online:
- No commute stress
- Familiar environment
- More flexible scheduling
Arguments for testing center:
- No home distractions
- More controlled environment
- Better equipment potentially
My main concern with the online version is proctoring — I've heard some certification exams have very strict rules about what's allowed in the room. One wrong move and you're flagged.
Has anyone taken ISO both ways? Or specifically the online version? How was the experience? And does the difficulty or question format actually differ based on how you take it?
Also — any issues with the "iso 20000" type content being harder in one format vs the other?
For what it's worth from someone who's been through it:
The ISO is one of those exams where the practice tests really do prepare you well. The style of questioning is pretty consistent. If you're comfortable with "iso 20000" material under timed conditions, you'll be fine.
The one thing I'd add: read the question stems very carefully. They sometimes add a qualifier that completely changes the right answer and it's easy to miss when you're going fast.
Also check whether you need to schedule the exam in advance — some testing centers book up 2-3 weeks out.
This thread saved me from making the same mistakes. The tip about iso 20000 certification being weighted heavily is accurate — I adjusted my study time based on this and it made a real difference. Also seconding the recommendation for iso 20000 certification.
Coming back to this thread — just passed my iso-20000-certification yesterday. Everything about the iso-20000-certification practice test section is accurate. For anyone still studying, the iso 20000 performance evaluation and improvement was the closest thing to the real exam I found.
Honestly I almost didn't bother finishing the prep because I kept second-guessing myself and thought I wasn't cut out for it. What got me through was drilling the stuff I kept getting wrong, especially the iso 20000 performance evaluation and improvement section which tripped me up every time. I took it online and passed, so it's doable either way.
On your actual question, I don't think the format matters as much as people say. If your home setup is quiet and you can lock the door for two hours, go online. If you've got kids or roommates who don't respect "I'm testing right now," just go to the center and remove the variable. The exam itself wasn't harder online, it was the same material, same pressure. You'll be fine.
