Finally passed M-STEP after two attempts — here's what actually helped
So I've been stressing about the M-STEP for months now. Failed my first attempt back in March by just a few points, which was honestly crushing because I felt like I had studied pretty hard. The reading comprehension section completely wrecked me — I didn't realize how much they focus on evidence-based questions until I was sitting there in the room feeling totally blindsided.
After that I got serious. I found a decent M STEP practice test online and just drilled it over and over, timing myself so I could get used to the pacing. I also went through a study guide that broke down the math section by strand, which helped me figure out where my weak spots actually were (turns out it was data and statistics — who knew). Spent about 3 weeks, maybe an hour a night.
Retook it last Tuesday and passed with a score of 78. If you're preparing right now, the biggest tip I can give is don't just read through material — actually do timed practice under test conditions. Anyone else have exam tips that helped them specifically with the ELA portion?
