Finally passed my LLR after failing twice — here's what actually worked

I'll be honest, I was pretty embarrassed when I failed my LLR the second time. I'd been driving for years and just assumed I could walk in and wing it. Big mistake. The road signs section absolutely destroyed me both times — I kept confusing the warning signs with regulatory ones and apparently that's a common trap.

What finally got me through on my third attempt was actually committing to a proper LLR practice test routine. I found a solid set of practice questions online and did at least 30-40 questions every evening for two weeks. I also grabbed a study guide that broke down the rules of the road by category instead of just throwing everything at me randomly. Game changer. My score went from a 58% to an 88%.

A few exam tips that helped me specifically: read every question twice before answering, don't second-guess your first instinct on speed limits, and know your stopping distances cold — they love asking about those. Anyone else here had to retake it? What topics tripped you up the most?

The stopping distances killed me too! I had no idea they'd ask so many questions about braking in wet vs. dry conditions. What I did was make a little cheat sheet and stuck it on my bathroom mirror for a week. Sounds silly but seeing it every morning drilled it in. Also the right-of-way at unmarked intersections — make sure you know that one inside out before you go in.

Third time's the charm! Seriously though, the two-week consistent practice approach is exactly right. Cramming the night before doesn't work for this one. I passed first attempt but only because a friend warned me to treat it seriously. Good luck to everyone here still studying — it's very passable once you put the hours in.

Congrats on passing! I've got mine booked for next month and I'm honestly nervous. Been using practice tests but I keep hovering around 75% which I know isn't good enough. Did you find the actual exam harder or easier than the practice questions? Some people say the real thing has trickier wording. I'm mainly worried about the penalty points and alcohol limit questions — there seem to be so many variations of those.
