Best free resources for CIP prep — what's actually worth your time
Compiling a list of what's actually useful for CIP prep after going through a lot of material that wasn't. Wanted to share what worked for me and hopefully save others some time.
For practice test specifically, the free resources are surprisingly good. The cip courtroom procedures & protocols has questions that closely match real exam difficulty — not dumbed-down versions that give you false confidence. For the conceptual background, certified immigration paralegal test is one of the better free reads available.
What I'd skip: most YouTube "pass in one week" content. The explanations are surface-level and don't prepare you for the applied questions on the actual CIP exam. Flashcards alone also aren't enough for this one.
What actually worked: timed practice sets with immediate review of wrong answers, reading the official reference material for any concept that came up more than twice, and finding one study partner for accountability.
This is exactly the thread I needed. I sit for my CIP in 2 weeks and have been second-guessing my prep. The exam prep area you mentioned is definitely my weak spot. Thanks for the honest breakdown.

Great discussion. One thing nobody mentions: sleep the night before matters more than one more study session. Went in fully rested for my CIP and felt sharper than expected.
Quick update for anyone tracking their own progress. I sat down last weekend and ran through a full practice set cold, no review beforehand, and pulled an 84 percent. Honestly didn't expect that since a few weeks ago I was barely scraping a pass. The free cip legal research writing set was the one that moved the needle for me, because that section kept tanking my scores until I drilled it over and over.
I'm planning to book the real exam for early next month, probably the first week. I want to get two more clean runs above 80 before I commit to a date, but it's finally starting to click. If you're still on the fence about whether the free stuff is enough, it's been plenty for me so far. Save your money and just keep grinding the practice questions.
