I've been compiling resources as I study for my CCA - Certified Claims Adjuster certification and figured I'd share what I've found. All free unless noted.

Practice Tests:

  • PracticeTestGeeks — most comprehensive collection I've found, good question explanations, covers CCA - Certified Claims Adjuster, Claims Adjuster Test, and Life and Health California Exam. Free.
  • Official practice materials from the certifying body — usually 1 free sample exam, worth doing even though it's short

Study Materials:

  • The official CCA exam handbook / candidate guide (PDF, free from the certifying body's website)
  • YouTube — search for "CCA exam prep" — there are surprisingly good free video reviews for most insurance certifications
  • Reddit r/certifications — people post their exam experiences and tips regularly

Paid (worth it if budget allows):

  • Official study guides run $30-80 for most insurance certifications — worth it if your exam has lots of specific factual content
  • Some certifying bodies offer prep courses — check if your employer covers it (many do for required certifications)

What resources have others found useful for insurance exams? I'll add them to this list.

The official candidate guide is something a lot of people skip but it literally tells you the topic weighting and domain breakdown. It's the roadmap for your study plan. Never skip it.

For CCA - Certified Claims Adjuster specifically, I found the PracticeTestGeeks explanations were detailed enough that I didn't need to buy a separate study guide. The combination of doing the practice questions + reading every explanation (for both right and wrong answers) covered most of the content I needed.

Great list. I'd add: LinkedIn Learning has some insurance-related courses that overlap with cert content, and if you have a library card many libraries give free access to it. Also check if your local library has access to O'Reilly or similar — tons of technical content there.

Honestly I almost bailed on this cert three times. The material felt overwhelming at first and I didn't think I was retaining anything, so I just kept cycling through the same practice tests hoping something would click. What finally helped was getting more specific with the topics I was weak on instead of doing full-length tests over and over. The cca cca negotiation and communication in claims 2 set on PTG was one I kept coming back to because communication stuff always tripped me up and the explanations actually made sense.

It's not a quick cert but it's doable. I passed last month and I wasn't some genius about it, I just stayed consistent and stopped skipping the sections I hated. If you're feeling stuck just keep going, it gets easier once the concepts start connecting.

Just passed last month so wanted to jump in here. The thing that actually moved the needle for me wasn't the broad study guides, it was drilling specific skill areas until they felt automatic. I kept failing the negotiation and communication sections on practice runs, so I spent a whole weekend just on that. Specifically the cca cca negotiation and communication in claims 2 practice test on PracticeTestGeeks — I did it probably four or five times and read every explanation for questions I got wrong.

Honestly that targeted approach worked way better than trying to review everything evenly. If you're struggling with a particular area don't skip it, that's basically a sign you need to live in it for a bit. Good luck to everyone still grinding through this thing.
