Failed my IN DMV test twice — what finally worked for me?

Okay so I'm a little embarrassed to admit this but I failed the Indiana BMV knowledge test twice before I finally passed last month. The first time I went in totally cold thinking it would be easy — big mistake. Second time I read the whole driver's manual cover to cover and still missed too many road sign questions. I was honestly starting to panic because I need my license for a new job that requires driving.

What finally turned things around was actually doing a proper IN DMV practice test online instead of just reading. I found that drilling the actual question formats helped way more than passive reading. I spent about 45 minutes a day for a week, focused especially on speed limits in school zones and right-of-way rules which kept tripping me up.

For anyone else struggling, I'd really recommend finding a good study guide that breaks down Indiana-specific laws — not just generic driving rules. Passed with an 88% on my third attempt. Happy to share what resources I used if anyone's interested!

I went through the same thing last year. The road signs section is no joke — Indiana has some specific ones that aren't in every state's manual. What helped me was doing timed practice runs so I got used to not overthinking each question. Once I stopped second-guessing myself my scores jumped from like 72% to 90% pretty quickly. Congrats on passing!

Do you remember which topics showed up most on your actual test? I'm scheduled for mine in two weeks and I've been using a study guide but honestly I'm not sure if I'm focusing on the right stuff. Speed limits and signage seem obvious but someone told me there are a lot of questions about Indiana's specific DUI laws too — is that true?

The exam tips that helped me most: don't rush through the road sign questions, and always read ALL the answer choices before picking. I thought I knew a sign and picked fast, got it wrong. Slowing down on those saved me on my second attempt.
