Passed ILEARN after failing twice — here's what finally worked for me

I'll be honest, I was pretty devastated after my second attempt. I'd been cramming the night before both times and telling myself that was enough. It wasn't. My score on the ELA portion was a 47 when I needed a 50 to hit proficiency, and the math gap was even worse. My teacher suggested I actually structure my prep this time instead of just reviewing random stuff.

What changed everything was finding a solid ILEARN practice test that actually mirrored the real question types — especially the evidence-based writing tasks and the multi-step math problems. I spent about 3 weeks doing timed practice sets each morning before school, maybe 45 minutes a day. I also grabbed an ILEARN study guide that broke down the Indiana Academic Standards by strand, which helped me figure out exactly where my gaps were instead of just studying everything blindly.

Does anyone else have exam tips specifically for the passage analysis questions? That section still trips me up and I have one more shot this spring. Would love to hear what worked for others.

Three weeks of daily practice is honestly the right move. I did something similar before my attempt last fall. One thing I'd add — don't skip the math constructed response section in practice. A lot of people only do multiple choice and then get surprised. Partial credit is real on those, so show every step even if you're unsure of the final answer. Cost me points my first time around.

The passage analysis questions got me too at first. What helped was reading the last question before the passage so I knew what to look for. Also stop trying to remember everything — just annotate as you go, underline the claim in each paragraph. My reading score jumped 6 points once I stopped rereading full passages and learned to scan back for evidence.

Good luck on your spring attempt! Seriously, 45 minutes a day consistent beats 4 hours the night before every time. You've already figured out the hardest part.
