Failed IC3 once, retaking in 3 weeks — what actually helped you pass?

So I bombed the IC3 GS6 last month — got a 63% on the Computing Fundamentals section and that tanked my whole score. I've been working in IT support for two years so I figured I'd breeze through it, but honestly the way they phrase the questions threw me off completely. Stuff I know cold in practice I kept second-guessing on the actual exam.

I've been going through an IC3 study guide I found online but I'm not sure it's covering the right things. The key applications module especially — I'm weak on the database and spreadsheet functions stuff. I've also been doing an IC3 practice test every other day to get used to the format, which has helped a little, but my scores are still hovering around 70-75% and I need an 80+ to meet my employer's requirement.

Anyone have specific exam tips that actually moved the needle for you? Particularly around the Living Online module — networking concepts and cybersecurity feel pretty broad and I'm not sure what level of depth they actually test.

Honestly the study guide alone wasn't enough for me either. The key applications section has a lot of tricky Excel formula questions — know the difference between absolute and relative cell references cold, they test that constantly. I spent maybe 4 hours just drilling spreadsheet stuff. Also the cybersecurity questions in Living Online tend to focus on social engineering and password practices more than actual network infrastructure, so don't go too deep on the technical networking side.

Three weeks is plenty of time if you're focused. I'd suggest doing at least one full timed practice test every 2-3 days rather than topic-by-topic study — the real exam moves fast and time management matters more than people realize. Good luck on the retake!

The database question phrasing is genuinely weird — they love asking about relationships and primary keys in very abstract ways. What helped me was doing practice questions timed, not just reading. Also don't skip the internet safety stuff in Living Online, there were way more questions on that than I expected. I went from failing a practice test at 68% to passing the real thing at 82% in about two weeks of focused daily practice.
