Finally passed IAHC after two attempts — here's what actually helped

So I just got my results back yesterday and I passed with an 84. Honestly didn't think I'd make it after failing the first time by 6 points back in February. I'm a home care coordinator with about 3 years of experience, and I assumed that would carry me through. It didn't. The exam has a lot of specific regulatory and compliance content that you really can't just wing from experience alone.

What changed the second time around was being way more systematic. I spent about 6 weeks doing a dedicated IAHC study guide review — hitting the domains in order instead of jumping around — and I started doing an IAHC practice test every Sunday to track where my weak spots were. My scores went from low 60s to mid-70s before I felt ready to rebook.

The care coordination and ethics sections tripped me up the most. Anyone else find those disproportionately heavy? Would love to swap exam tips with folks who are currently prepping or just finished. Happy to answer questions about the process.

This is encouraging to read. I'm scheduled for July and feeling pretty behind. Can I ask — how many questions did you feel genuinely stumped on? I keep reading conflicting things about the difficulty level and I can't tell if I should push my date back. I'm scoring around 68-70 on practice sets right now. Is that enough buffer or should I give myself more time?

68-70 this far out is actually not bad — most people see a 6-8 point jump between their last practice run and the real thing just from nerves settling. Keep the date. The exam tips that matter most: read every answer choice before committing, and flag anything ethics-related for review before you submit.

Congrats! I took mine last month and agree completely about the ethics content — I was not expecting that much depth there. What I found helped was making a separate notes sheet just for the Standards of Practice section and reviewing it every few days instead of cramming. Also did timed practice tests starting about 3 weeks out, which got my pacing sorted. Went in feeling calm for once.
