Is CARO certification worth it for career growth? Honest take

I've been going back and forth on whether to pursue CARO certification and wanted to get honest input from people who've actually done it.

On paper, having study guide credentials on your resume looks great. But I'm wondering whether employers actually differentiate between certified and non-certified candidates in practice, or whether it just checks a box.

My current role doesn't require the CARO but a senior position I'm targeting lists it as preferred. I've been using the free caro evaporators and condensers questions and answers to study and caro test for the broader context — the content is solid, but I want to make sure the certification itself carries weight before investing another 9 weeks.

For anyone who got the CARO cert: did it open doors you wouldn't have otherwise had? Any salary bump or was it more of a formality for a promotion you were already on track for?

Failed my first attempt, came back to this thread for motivation. The advice about really understanding why wrong answers are wrong — not just memorizing the right ones — is the single best piece of advice I've seen for the CARO. Rebuilding my prep around that principle now. Using caro test for the concept review.

Bookmarking this. I'm still in the early stages of CARO prep and threads like this are way more useful than generic study guides. The specifics about study guide are particularly helpful — that's the section I've been avoiding.

Congrats on passing! Can I ask — how many questions did the actual exam have compared to what the practice tests simulate? I've seen different numbers online and want to calibrate my timing during practice.

Quick update for this thread: just cleared 82% on my most recent CARO practice set. The free caro compressor operations and maintenance questions and answers has been my main resource and the difficulty feels right — not easy enough to give false confidence, not so hard it's discouraging. Sitting for the real thing in 3 weeks.
