Finally passed my HCA exam after failing twice — here's what worked

So I just got my results this morning and I actually passed. I'm still kind of in shock because I failed twice before this and was seriously considering giving up. The first two times I just read through the textbook and figured that would be enough. Spoiler: it wasn't.

What finally made the difference was actually drilling with a good HCA practice test over and over instead of just rereading material I already half-knew. I also found a solid study guide that broke down the clinical procedures section in a way my textbook never did — that section alone was destroying my score. I spent about 3 weeks doing 1-2 hours a night, focusing on infection control and patient safety first since those showed up constantly.

For exam tips: don't ignore the communication and ethics questions. I thought I could wing those and I was wrong both times. They're tricky because multiple answers look right. Anyone else currently studying? Happy to share more about what I used if it helps.

Congrats!! I just registered for mine next month and the clinical procedures part is exactly what's stressing me out. Can I ask which practice tests you were using? I've tried a couple free ones online but they feel really surface-level and don't match the actual question style at all. Also how many questions were on your exam? I've heard different numbers from different people.

The communication/ethics section gets everyone. I passed on my second attempt too and honestly that section is where most people drop points without realizing it. The key is they're testing what you SHOULD do in an ideal scenario, not what actually happens in a real facility. Once I started thinking about it that way the answers got way clearer. Good luck to everyone still grinding through this.

This is exactly the encouragement I needed today. Failed mine two weeks ago and was feeling pretty defeated. Starting fresh with a structured study guide this time instead of just winging it. Infection control and patient rights — got it, those are my focus areas now.
