Finally passed my GRT exam after two attempts — here's what worked

So I just got my results back and I finally passed the GRT on my second try. First attempt I scored a 71 and needed a 75, which was honestly crushing because I felt like I'd studied pretty hard. Took about three weeks off to regroup and completely changed my approach.

The biggest shift was actually using a proper GRT practice test to identify my weak spots instead of just reading through the material cover to cover. Turns out I was losing a ton of points on the regulatory compliance sections — stuff I kept skipping because it felt dry. Once I targeted those areas specifically and built a real study guide around my gaps, things clicked a lot faster.

Second time around I put in about 8-10 hours a week for six weeks, focused heavily on exam tips from people who'd already passed, and went in way more confident. Ended up scoring an 83. Happy to answer questions if anyone's in the same boat I was — this exam is totally passable, it just takes a smarter approach than brute-force memorizing.

Congrats! I'm currently about four weeks out from my exam date and the regulatory sections are killing me too. Can I ask which specific topics tripped you up most? I've been using practice tests but I feel like I'm still missing something conceptually. Scored a 68 on my last mock and I'm starting to stress a little.

That score jump from 71 to 83 is impressive. Targeting weak spots with practice tests rather than re-reading everything is 100% the move. Wish I'd figured that out before my first attempt rather than after.

Two attempts is nothing to be embarrassed about — a lot of people I know took three. The jump from reading material to actually applying it under timed conditions is real. What I found helpful was doing practice questions in 30-minute blocks rather than trying to power through a full mock exam all at once. Helped me build focus without burning out. Good on you for sticking with it.
