Failed GO exam twice — what finally worked for my third attempt?

I've been trying to pass the GO certification for the past eight months and honestly it's been humbling. First attempt I scored a 67, needed a 75. Second time I bumped it to a 71 and just felt defeated. I work full-time in logistics so my study time is scattered — maybe 45 minutes in the morning before the kids wake up, sometimes nothing for days.

What finally clicked for me was finding a solid GO practice test that actually mimicked the real exam format. I'd been reading the official materials cover to cover but not doing enough timed practice. Once I shifted to drilling questions — especially the operational procedures and compliance sections — my weak spots became really obvious really fast.

I'm now three weeks out from my third attempt and averaging 78-80 on my practice runs. My study guide approach has totally changed: I do one topic block per day, test myself immediately after, then revisit anything under 70% the next morning. Anyone else find that active recall beats passive reading for this cert? Would love to hear exam tips from people who passed on their first or second try.

The compliance section wrecked me too on my first pass. What helped was making a one-page cheat sheet of the key thresholds and timelines — not to use during the exam obviously, just the act of writing it out. I also gave myself a hard cutoff of two hours of study per day max. Past that I was just exhausted and retaining nothing. Passed at 79 on attempt two.

Honestly the GO practice test question banks vary wildly in quality. Some of the free ones online use outdated terminology and it actually confused me going into the real thing. I'd stick to material that's been updated within the last year or so. Also — and this is specific — don't skip the scenario-based questions even if they feel slow. The real exam leans on those more than I expected.

Three weeks out with scores in the high 70s sounds like you're in a good spot. Just don't cram the night before. Seriously. I did light review and went to bed early and I think that made a bigger difference than any last-minute study session would have.
