Finally passed GAP after failing twice — here's what actually worked

So I've been lurking here for a while and figured I'd finally post since I see a lot of people asking about the GAP exam. I failed my first attempt in February (scored a 68, needed a 75) and then failed again in April by just 4 points. I was honestly ready to give up on the whole thing.

What finally clicked for me was ditching my textbook-only approach. I started using a GAP practice test site to simulate the actual exam conditions — timed sections, multiple choice format, the works. I also found a solid study guide that broke down the financial concepts in plain English instead of jargon. Spent about 3 weeks doing 90-minute sessions, 4 days a week.

Third attempt last month: 82. I honestly think the biggest exam tip I can share is to focus heavily on the accounting and valuation sections — they're worth more than you'd expect and a lot of people (including me the first two times) underestimate them. Anyone else here prepping right now? Happy to share more specifics.

Congrats on passing! I'm currently 6 weeks out from my first attempt and this is super encouraging. I've been struggling with the risk management portion specifically. Did you find that topic showed up a lot? I'm using a study guide but it feels pretty surface-level on that section. Also, how many practice questions did you do total before you felt ready?

This mirrors my experience almost exactly. Failed once, passed on my second try after I got serious about timed practice tests. The real exam feels rushed if you haven't trained yourself to move quickly. One thing I'd add — don't ignore the ethics module. Everyone skips it thinking it's easy points and then gets tripped up by the scenario-based questions. Those are sneaky.

Thanks for posting this. Seriously needed to see a success story today. I've got my exam in three weeks and the valuation section is destroying me. Going to double down on practice tests this weekend.
