Just passed the Georgia notary exam — here's what actually helped me

So I finally got through the Georgia notary certification process last week and honestly it was less scary than I thought, but I definitely had to put in some real prep time. I'd heard from a coworker that the exam catches a lot of people off guard because it's not just common sense stuff — there are specific statutes and procedural rules that you really have to know cold.

I spent about two weeks studying, maybe 30-45 minutes a night. The biggest thing that helped was drilling with a GA NOTARY practice test repeatedly until I could get consistent 85%+ scores. The actual exam felt very similar in style. Topics I'd focus on: the improper notarization rules, journal requirements, acceptable ID types, and what constitutes a proper acknowledgment versus a jurat.

Anyone else studying for this right now? Happy to share more specifics about what tripped me up early on, or if you have questions about the application process after you pass. It's pretty straightforward once you know what to expect.

How long did the actual exam take you? I'm sitting for mine next Thursday and I'm nervous about time. I've been doing practice questions but some of them feel way harder than what people say the real test is like. Also did you need to know anything about electronic notarization or was it all traditional in-person stuff? Trying to figure out where to focus my last few days of review.

Congrats! I took mine back in March and the ID requirements section is no joke — I missed two questions on that alone my first attempt. The GA NOTARY study guide I found online helped me understand the difference between acceptable primary and secondary ID, which the official handbook kind of glosses over. Second attempt I passed with an 88. Give yourself grace if you need to retake it.

The journal requirement questions got me the first time too. Just remember — Georgia requires a notary journal even though it's not always enforced. That distinction shows up on the exam more than once. Good luck everyone studying right now, it's honestly a manageable test if you put in a few focused hours.
