Failed GA DMV knowledge test twice — what finally helped me pass

Okay so I'm a little embarrassed to even post this but maybe it'll help someone else. I failed the Georgia DMV knowledge test twice before I finally passed last Tuesday. The first time I only got a 68% and needed a 75, and I honestly thought I'd just walk in and wing it because I've been driving for years (I'm 28, just moved from out of state and had to get a GA license). Second time I studied for like two days using random Google results and got a 72. So close and yet.

What finally worked for me was actually committing to a real GA DMV practice test routine — I did timed 20-question sets every morning for a week and tracked which sections I kept missing. Turns out my weak spots were right-of-way rules and the specific Georgia speed limits in school zones vs residential areas. Those come up constantly.

Anyone else have specific study guide recommendations or exam tips that helped? Especially for the road signs section — I still almost got tripped up on a few of those.

The school zone speed limit questions got me too! Georgia has some specific rules that differ from other states — 25 mph when kids are present vs the posted limit otherwise. What helped me was doing the GA DMV practice test on the official DDS site plus a third-party one back to back. Seeing the same concepts worded differently really locked them in. I passed with an 88 on my first try after about 5 days of that routine.

Honestly the road signs section is deceptively hard if you haven't driven in Georgia specifically. I'd been licensed in Florida for 12 years before moving here and still missed 4 sign questions. My tip: don't just memorize what signs look like, memorize what action you're supposed to take. The study guide on the DDS website breaks it down by category and that framing really clicked for me.

Don't sweat the two attempts — plenty of people need more than one. The main exam tips I'd give: read every question twice before answering, and don't second-guess yourself on signs you recognize. You clearly know the material now. Good luck!
