Failed FLHSMV written test twice — what am I missing here?

So I've now failed the FLHSMV knowledge exam twice and I'm honestly embarrassed to go back a third time. The first time I only studied for like two days using the driver handbook, scored a 68 and needed a 80. Second attempt I spent more time with the handbook but still pulled a 74. I keep getting tripped up on the right-of-way scenarios and those traffic sign questions where three signs look almost identical.

A friend told me I should try an FLHSMV practice test instead of just reading the handbook over and over. Makes sense in hindsight — reading passively isn't the same as actually testing yourself. I found a study guide that breaks down the sign recognition section specifically, which seems to be where I'm hemorrhaging points.

Has anyone else struggled with this and figured out what finally clicked? I've got my third attempt scheduled for two weeks out and really can't afford to fail again — my job literally depends on having a license. Any tips on what to focus on or how many hours of prep actually made a difference?

I was in almost the exact same spot last year. What turned it around for me was doing timed FLHSMV practice tests every single day for a week — not just reading, but forcing myself to answer under pressure. The right-of-way stuff especially clicked once I saw the same question types repeated in practice. I passed with an 88 on my third try. Two weeks is plenty of time if you're consistent.

The sign questions got me too. There's a specific section in most study guides that isolates warning signs vs. regulatory signs and honestly just drilling those with flashcards for 20 minutes a day made a huge difference. Also, don't skip the chapters on Florida-specific laws — DUI thresholds, implied consent, that stuff shows up more than you'd expect and it's different from what other states do.

Two weeks is solid — I only had five days and squeaked by with an 82. Just don't cram the night before, seriously. Do your heavy studying days 3-7, then light review the last two days. Your brain needs time to consolidate it.
