Finally passed FISDAP after failing twice — here's what actually helped

Okay so I've been putting off writing this post for a while but I feel like I owe it to anyone else who's been where I was six months ago. I failed the FISDAP readiness exam twice — first time I scored a 62 when I needed a 70, second time a 68. I was honestly starting to wonder if EMS was the right path for me. My program director pointed me toward a FISDAP practice test site and that honestly changed everything about how I was studying.

The thing I didn't realize is that FISDAP isn't just testing if you memorized protocols — it's testing your clinical decision-making under pressure. Cardiology and trauma kept destroying me. I spent about 3 weeks going through a proper study guide section by section instead of just doing random question banks, and I finally hit a 74 on my third attempt. Not a perfect score but I cleared the threshold and that's what mattered.

For anyone currently grinding through this, what topics are giving you the most trouble? And does anyone have exam tips specifically for the airway management section? That one still feels shaky to me even after passing.

Congrats on passing! Airway was my weak spot too. What helped me was drawing out the decision trees for RSI vs BVM vs surgical airway until I could do it from memory. The FISDAP questions love to give you a patient where one airway method is contraindicated and you have to catch why. Spent maybe 10 hours just on that one section over two weeks. Totally worth it.

I'm currently on my first attempt prep and honestly terrified. How many questions did you do per day when you were studying? I've been doing like 20-30 but I'm not sure if that's enough. My test is in three weeks and cardiology is also killing me — specifically the 12-lead interpretation stuff. Did the practice test questions match the real exam difficulty or were they easier?

The cardiology section on the real exam is no joke. Print out a 12-lead interpretation cheat sheet and drill it daily for the two weeks before your test. Muscle memory for rhythms is real and it will save you when you're tired and second-guessing yourself mid-exam.
