Failed FAST exam twice — what actually worked for my third attempt?

So I finally passed the FAST exam last month after two embarrassing failures and I wanted to share what actually made the difference because I was ready to give up. The first time I went in after just reading the manual — big mistake. Scored a 67 when you need a 75. Second attempt I bought some random study guide off Amazon and barely moved the needle, got a 71.

What finally clicked was building a real study schedule around my weak areas. I was terrible on wave theory and antenna fundamentals, so I dedicated about 3 weeks just to those topics before touching anything else. I also started doing timed FAST practice test sessions every other day, which helped me get comfortable with how the questions are worded — they love tricky phrasing. Probably logged 60+ hours total over 8 weeks.

Anyone else feel like the official materials just don't prepare you for the actual question style? Would love to hear what exam tips worked for others, especially on the technical calculation sections.

Congrats on passing! I went through something similar — failed once before getting serious. The calculation questions were brutal for me too. What helped was actually writing out formulas by hand every day instead of just reading them. Muscle memory is real. Also, don't skip the practice scenarios, they show up way more often than you'd expect on the real thing.

72-74 on mocks is actually pretty solid — most people say the real exam is slightly easier than good third-party practice tests. Don't cram the last two days, just review your formula sheet and sleep well. That last-minute anxiety spiral is what tanks people who are otherwise ready.

Which study guide did you end up using for your third attempt? I'm about 4 weeks out from my first sitting and honestly a little nervous. I've been mixing the official materials with some online practice questions but I can't tell if I'm actually ready or just fooling myself. My mock scores are hovering around 72-74 which feels too close to the cutoff for comfort.
