Finally passed FAC after two attempts — here's what actually worked

So I just got my results back yesterday and I passed the FAC exam on my second try. First attempt was embarrassing — I went in thinking I could wing it with a few days of reading and got absolutely humbled. Scored a 68 when I needed a 75. That was back in February.

This time I gave myself six weeks and actually committed to a real schedule. The biggest change was using a structured FAC study guide instead of just reading the official materials cover to cover. I also hammered FAC practice test questions every single day, probably 30-40 questions a night. The repetition genuinely works — you start recognizing how the questions are worded and where the traps are. Federal acquisition regulations are dense but the exam tests the same concepts repeatedly.

If you're just starting out, my biggest FAC exam tips would be: don't skip the ethics section (it's worth more than you think), and time yourself on every practice set. I was running out of time on attempt one and didn't even realize it was a problem until it was too late.

Congrats! I'm sitting for mine in three weeks and this is exactly what I needed to hear. I've been doing the same thing — heavy on practice questions, light on re-reading the actual FAR. One thing that helped me was grouping questions by topic so I could identify my weak spots. Ethics and simplified acquisition thresholds were killing me at first. What resource did you use for the practice tests?

Second attempt success stories are honestly the most motivating. I passed mine last fall but it took me way longer than six weeks to feel ready. Honestly the time management issue you mentioned is real — I'd recommend everyone do at least two or three full timed mock exams before the real thing. Also the price evaluation and source selection sections tripped up a lot of people I know. Don't underestimate those.

The ethics module being weighted heavily is so true and nobody talks about it. I almost skipped studying it because I figured it'd be common sense. It's not. Some of those scenarios are genuinely tricky. Glad you made it through — federal acquisition is a solid credential to have.
