So I finally passed the ETC certification last week after failing my first attempt back in March. I scored a 74 on my first try and was honestly pretty devastated since I'd studied for about three weeks straight. The thing I didn't realize is how heavily they weight the practical application questions versus the pure theory stuff. I kept cramming definitions when I should've been working through scenarios.
What turned it around for me was switching my focus to an ETC practice test routine — doing timed sets of 30 questions every morning before work. I also found a decent study guide that broke down the electrical theory sections into digestible chunks, which is where I was losing the most points. Ended up scoring an 84 on my second attempt.
Anyone else sitting for the ETC soon? Happy to share my exam tips or compare notes on which topic areas gave you the most trouble. The motor control and troubleshooting sections are no joke.
