I've been going back and forth on whether to pursue OECP certification and wanted to get honest input from people who've actually done it.
On paper, having exam prep credentials on your resume looks great. But I'm wondering whether employers actually differentiate between certified and non-certified candidates in practice, or whether it just checks a box.
My current role doesn't require the OECP but a senior position I'm targeting lists it as preferred. I've been using the oecp materials & resource management to study and the content is solid — but I want to make sure the certification itself carries weight before investing another 8 weeks.
For anyone who got the OECP cert: did it open doors you wouldn't have otherwise had? Any salary bump or was it more of a formality for a promotion you were already on track for?
Late to this thread but wanted to add — the study guide section trips up more people than any other part. If you're scoring below 74% there in practice, treat it as your only focus for at least a week before moving on. Breadth at the expense of depth in that area is a common mistake.
Bookmarking this. I'm still in the early stages of OECP prep and threads like this are way more useful than generic study guides. The specifics about exam prep are particularly helpful — that's the section I've been avoiding.
Good thread. One thing I'd add: don't try to cram the night before. I did 3 hours the night before my OECP and I think it hurt more than helped. Your brain needs consolidation time. Light review or full rest is better.
This is exactly the thread I needed. I sit for my OECP in 2 weeks and have been second-guessing my prep. The study guide area you mentioned is definitely my weak spot. Thanks for the honest breakdown.
Really helpful breakdown, thanks for sharing. I'm at week 4 of my OECP prep and the study guide section is exactly where I'm struggling too. Going to try the approach you described and see if it moves my scores.
