What's the actual passing score for MASS? Getting conflicting info

Passed MASS 5 months ago. Happy to share what I remember.

On the "midnight mass" stuff specifically — I found the practice tests here were actually harder than the real exam on those questions. Which was great because going in I felt more prepared than I needed to be.

The time pressure is real though. I came in with maybe 8 minutes to spare and that was after skipping the ones I wasn't sure about and coming back.

Don't try to cram the night before. Seriously. Last-minute stress makes you second-guess things you actually know.

Coming back to this thread — just passed my MASS yesterday. Everything about the mass practice test section is accurate. For anyone still studying, the massachusetts rmv permit practice test was the closest thing to the real exam I found.

Yeah you're overthinking the percentage thing, and honestly the "mass lottery" searches are sending you down the wrong rabbit hole entirely — that's a totally separate thing. For the actual RMV permit test it's 25 questions and you need 18 right to pass. That works out to 72%, which is probably why you're seeing 70 and 75 floating around — people just round it different ways. You can miss 7 and still walk out with the permit.

Just passed mine last week so I'll back up what others said here. The one thing that actually moved the needle for me was hammering the road sign questions until I knew them cold, because they show up more than you'd expect and they're free points if you've got them memorized. I kept whiffing on the warning vs regulatory sign shapes early on. Ran through this mass rmv learner's permit practice test over and over and the questions are close enough to the real format that nothing on test day surprised me.

Don't stress the exact number. Just aim to consistently hit 22+ on practice runs and the real thing feels easy.
