Finally passed DP-200 after two attempts — what actually worked for me

So I passed the DP-200 - Microsoft Azure Data Solutions exam last Tuesday and honestly couldn't believe it when I saw that 782 score pop up. I'd failed my first attempt back in February with a 689 and was pretty demoralized. The exam hit me hard on Azure Data Factory pipelines and the whole security/encryption section — stuff I'd glossed over in my first study round.

For my second attempt I completely rebuilt my approach. Spent about 6 weeks, roughly 8-10 hours per week, focusing on hands-on labs in the Azure portal instead of just reading docs. The thing that made the biggest difference was grinding through practice questions. I used the DP-200 Test 1 set pretty heavily and it exposed gaps I didn't even know I had, especially around partitioning strategies in Cosmos DB and choosing the right storage tier.

My study guide recommendation: don't skip the monitoring and optimization topics. I almost did because they seemed secondary, but there were easily 8-10 questions touching on that area. Happy to share more specifics about what topics to prioritize if anyone's prepping right now.

Congrats on passing! I'm about 3 weeks out from my exam date and the security topics are killing me too. Quick question — did you find the real exam leaned more toward scenario-based questions or straightforward definition stuff? I've been doing mostly flashcards and I'm wondering if I should switch to more scenario practice before test day.

The ADF pipeline questions tripped me up on my attempt too. One thing that helped me was building a few actual pipelines from scratch rather than just watching videos. Like actually connecting a blob storage source to a SQL sink and dealing with the mapping errors yourself. It sticks way better than any study guide. Also the monitoring section — there's a solid practice set at the DP-200 Azure Data Monitoring and Optimization page that's worth running through.

782 is a solid score, well done. For anyone else studying: don't underestimate how much Azure Databricks shows up. I went in thinking it'd be maybe 10% of the exam and it felt like way more. Make sure you understand the difference between interactive and job clusters.
