Taking the DLAB in 6 weeks — what actually helped you prepare?

So I just got told by my recruiter that I need to score at least a 95 on the DLAB to qualify for the Arabic program I want. I honestly had no idea this test even existed until like two weeks ago, and now I'm scrambling to figure out how to study for something that supposedly can't really be studied for. My recruiter kind of shrugged when I asked about prep materials, which wasn't super helpful.

I've been doing some digging and found a few resources online. Started with the FREE DLAB Grammar MCQ Questions and Answers to at least get a feel for the grammar pattern stuff, since I've heard that's a big chunk of it. The made-up language portion is what's throwing me though — like how do you even practice for that?

For anyone who's taken the dlab test, especially for army language programs — how many hours did you put in? Did any specific dlab practice test resources actually move the needle for you, or is it mostly just one of those tests where you either have the aptitude or you don't?

I scored a 111 last year before going into the Mandarin pipeline. Honest answer — the grammar pattern work actually does help more than people think. Spend time on the artificial language logic, not just memorizing vocabulary rules. I did maybe 3 weeks of focused practice, probably an hour a day. The dlab test online free resources that made me apply grammar rules to fake words were the most useful by far. Don't skip that part thinking it's too weird to practice.

My experience was kind of humbling — I'm an English major and assumed I'd crush it, got a 94 my first attempt. Missed the cutoff by one point for the program I wanted. The part that got me was the listening comprehension with the invented language sounds. Definitely do a practice dlab test that includes audio if you can find one. Second time around I focused way more on that and jumped to 107. It's absolutely something you can improve with the right prep.

95 is totally doable in 6 weeks if you're consistent. I'd say 30-45 minutes daily beats cramming. Focus on identifying grammatical relationships rather than memorizing rules — that's really what the dlab test is measuring. You've got this.
