Just failed my DDI exam — what am I missing in my prep?

Okay so I'm a little embarrassed to even post this but I failed the DDI certification on my first attempt last week and I need to figure out what went wrong. I studied for about three weeks, mostly just reading through the official materials and watching some YouTube videos. Scored a 68 and needed a 75. The situational judgment questions absolutely wrecked me — I felt like two answers were always equally good.

I've been looking into finding a solid DDI practice test to actually simulate the exam experience this time around, because I think that's where I fell short. I never really tested myself under timed conditions. Has anyone put together a real DDI study guide they'd recommend, or a practice resource that covers the leadership competency sections specifically?

Planning to retest in about 6 weeks. Would love any exam tips from people who've passed this thing, especially around the behavioral and situational sections. What actually helped you get over that 75 threshold?

Failed it twice before I passed, so don't feel too bad. The biggest thing that helped me was doing DDI practice tests timed — like actually setting a timer and not pausing. The situational judgment stuff gets way easier once you understand DDI's model: they're almost always looking for the answer that involves listening first, then responding. Once I figured that out my score jumped about 8 points on practice runs.

Six weeks is plenty of time, seriously. Find a DDI practice test that mirrors the actual format — the multiple-choice situational ones, not just flashcards. Do at least one timed full-length run every week and review every wrong answer. That feedback loop is everything.

What specific competency areas showed as weak in your results report? DDI gives you a breakdown and that's honestly the best study guide you've got. I basically ignored everything that wasn't in my red/yellow zones and focused all my prep there. Took me maybe 4 weeks of targeted review and I passed with an 81. The leadership sections are heavy on Interaction Essentials — if you haven't memorized those, start there.
