Failed CWP twice — what finally helped me pass on attempt three?

So I've been chasing this certification for almost a year now and honestly I was starting to wonder if it was even worth it. Failed my first attempt by 11 points, second time by 4. Both times I thought I'd studied enough but the actual exam hit completely different than I expected — way more scenario-based questions than I anticipated.

What finally clicked for me was switching up my approach entirely. I'd been reading through the official handbook cover to cover, but I wasn't retaining it. Started using a CWP practice test to identify my weak spots, which turned out to be workplace investigations and documentation requirements. Once I knew exactly where I was losing points, I could target those areas instead of reviewing stuff I already knew cold.

Anyone else find the exam structure surprising on their first attempt? I'm compiling study guide notes for a friend who's sitting for it next month and want to make sure I'm giving her useful exam tips, not just what worked for me specifically.

The scenario questions were absolutely my biggest challenge too. I passed on my second try after spending about three weeks doing nothing but practice questions and reviewing the rationale for every wrong answer. That review step is what most people skip. I scored a 74 on my first attempt and jumped to an 83 the second time — that rationale review was probably worth 6-7 points on its own honestly.

How many hours total did you study before your third attempt? I'm about eight weeks out from my exam date and trying to figure out if I'm being realistic. Currently doing around 90 minutes a night after work but some of the policy and compliance sections are still pretty fuzzy for me. Did the study guide you used cover federal regulations in depth or was it mostly conceptual?

Congratulations on passing! For anyone else reading this — the documentation and recordkeeping questions showed up way more than I expected. Know that material cold before you walk in. It's not glamorous stuff to study but it's very testable.
