CWCA wound care certification — how often do you use formal wound assessment in practice?

RN with 6 years of med-surg experience considering the CWCA (Certified Wound Care Associate) credential. My hospital is starting a wound care program and they've expressed interest in staff getting certified. I see wounds daily but I've never worked on a dedicated wound care team.
How much of the CWCA content is directly applicable to general nursing wound care vs specialized wound care nursing? I want to know if this is a credential that would make my current job better or if it's really only useful for a specialized wound care role.

The CWCA made me significantly better at my general med-surg job. Assessment accuracy, debridement identification, dressing selection — all improved. I catch wound complications earlier now than I did before.

About 60% of the content is broadly applicable to any nursing role that involves wound management. The specialized sections are more relevant if you move to wound care specifically, but they still add clinical depth.

The credential also gives you credibility with the wound care team and with physicians when you're flagging wound concerns. That informal recognition matters in a floor nursing context.
