Cardiovascular Sonographer CCI exam — echo vs vascular track?

Finishing up my cardiovascular sonography program and need to decide between the CCI RDCS (echocardiography) and RVT (vascular) exams. My program covered both but my clinical hours are split 70/30 echo vs vascular. Job market in my area seems to want both eventually but I can only sit for one right now.

Is it easier to add the second credential after you're working, or should I try to sit for both while the material is fresh from school?

Sit for both while the material is fresh. The exam content starts fading quickly once you're working in a specialized role. I waited 2 years to add my vascular credential and had to essentially re-study from scratch.

The adult echo content is the heaviest and the one most employers require. RDCS first is the standard path for cardiac sonographers. RVT is valuable to have but secondary.

Echo first given your clinical hour split. Your strongest credential should come first because that's what gets you the job. Add vascular after you're employed — most employers will help with exam fees as a benefit.
