How much does CCA actually matter to employers right now?

I've been doing a lot of searching on "CCA" and while the certification looks solid on paper, I'm getting mixed signals about how much employers actually care in 2026.

Some job postings list it as required, some say "preferred," and some don't mention it at all even for roles where it seems relevant.

For those of you who have your CCA certification — has it actually opened doors or increased your rate? Or has the job market shifted to the point where it's table stakes rather than a differentiator?

Context: I'm entering the field and trying to decide whether to prioritize CCA or invest the same time into CCA - Certified Chef Associate.

Also — how current does the cert need to be? If I pass now, is a 2-3 year old cert still valuable or do employers want recent?

Passed CCA 7 months ago. Happy to share what I remember.

On the "CCA exam" stuff specifically — I found the practice tests here were actually harder than the real exam on those questions. Which was great because going in I felt more prepared than I needed to be.

The time pressure is real though. I came in with maybe 8 minutes to spare and that was after skipping the ones I wasn't sure about and coming back.

Don't try to cram the night before. Seriously. Last-minute stress makes you second-guess things you actually know.

Went through this exact question when I was prepping. The CCA material on "CCA" is actually not as bad as it looks — once it clicks it clicks.

What helped me was finding one resource that explained it from first principles instead of just giving me the "right answer." Made a huge difference on the scenario-based questions.

Also: don't underestimate the importance of reviewing your wrong answers more than your right ones. I learned more from 20 wrong answers than 200 correct ones.
