So I finally passed my CTS last month after two painful failures and I wanted to share what actually made the difference because I was seriously considering giving up. First two attempts I scored a 68% and then a 71% — so close both times. I'd been using the AVIXA study guide but honestly just reading through it wasn't cutting it.
What changed everything was finding a decent CTS practice test that simulated the real pacing. The exam moves fast and I wasn't prepared for that mentally. I did timed practice sets every single day for three weeks straight, about 90 minutes each session. I also stopped trying to memorize everything and focused on understanding the signal flow and AV math concepts deeply — those show up constantly.
For anyone just starting out, the exam tips I wish someone had told me: don't skip the AV math even if it scares you, and read every question twice before answering. Passed with an 82% on attempt three. Happy to answer questions about my study approach.
