Just registered for the CTP and trying to figure out a realistic study timeline. I've got about 8 weeks before my test date and I'm putting in roughly 90 minutes a day. Is that enough or should I push it to 2 hours?
I work full-time in corporate L&D so I'm not coming in cold - I know the instructional design side pretty well. My weak spots are the facilitation theory sections and the evaluation frameworks like Kirkpatrick. Anyone else find those harder than expected?
I scored 71% on my first practice set and felt okay about it but I've heard the real exam is a lot harder on the competency application questions. Would love to know what scores people were hitting on practice before they sat for the actual test and passed.
I studied for 10 weeks and passed with a 78%. The facilitation theory questions tripped me up too - I'd spend extra time on adult learning principles and the four-level evaluation model. Practice tests were my saving grace.
6 weeks was enough for me but I was coming from a training manager background with 5 years experience. If you're scoring 71% on your first run, you're in decent shape. Just drill the weak areas hard the last 2 weeks.
90 minutes a day over 8 weeks is about 84 hours total - that's on the high end of what most people recommend. I passed in 6 weeks at around 60 hours so you're probably fine. Don't burn out the week before.
The Kirkpatrick questions are deceptively tricky because they test application not just recall. I missed 4 of those on the real exam even though I thought I had it down cold. Make sure you practice scenario-based questions specifically.
