My daughter is taking the CTBS (Comprehensive Tests of Basic Skills) in a few weeks as part of her school's annual testing. The school doesn't provide much information about what the test covers or how to interpret the results.
She's a solid student but gets anxious about tests. I'm trying to find the right balance between helping her prepare without adding to the pressure. What does the CTBS actually test at the 4th grade level, and should parents be doing anything to help prepare?

CTBS at 4th grade typically covers reading comprehension, language arts, math concepts and computation, and sometimes science/social studies. The best prep is making sure she reads regularly and reviews math facts — no special cram sessions needed.

The percentile scores tell you how she compares to the national norming sample. A 60th percentile means she scored higher than 60% of students — it doesn't mean she only got 60% of answers right. Make sure you understand the score report format before getting it.

For test anxiety, practice the logistics: how long sections take, the fill-in-the-bubble format, what happens if you don't know an answer. Removing the unknown format aspect reduces anxiety more than content review for most kids.
