My employer is using a CTB (Cognitive Test Battery) as part of a promotion assessment process. I've never done formal cognitive testing before and I'm not sure what to expect. The HR description mentioned 'verbal reasoning, numerical reasoning, and abstract reasoning' components.
Is there specific prep that actually helps for these types of tests or is it mostly just a measure of baseline cognitive ability? I want to make sure I'm in the right headspace and understand the format, not necessarily try to game the test.

Familiarity with the format definitely helps even if raw ability is what they're measuring. Practice a few sample tests so you know what question types to expect and don't waste time being confused by format during the real thing.

The abstract/diagrammatic reasoning section usually trips people up most because it's less practiced than verbal or numerical. Do specific practice for that portion — there are free sample questions from SHL and Korn Ferry online.

Time management is crucial. These tests are almost always timed tightly to create pressure. Practice under timed conditions even if you initially practice untimed to learn the content.
