CT tech certification — ARRT vs ASRT, which matters more for jobs?

Just finished my radiologic technology program and am eligible to sit for the ARRT CT certification exam. My program director keeps saying ARRT is the gold standard but I've seen some job postings that mention ASRT credentials. Is there a meaningful difference in how employers view these?

I'm looking at hospital jobs in the Southeast US, mostly inpatient imaging departments. Clinical experience is limited to what I did in clinicals — about 400 CT hours total.

Also how long do most people study for the ARRT CT post-primary exam? I passed my primary ARRT (R) 8 months ago so that knowledge should still be relatively fresh.

ARRT is universally recognized and what almost every hospital requires. ASRT is a professional membership organization — good for development and networking but it's not a credentialing body the same way ARRT is. Employers care about ARRT.

For the CT post-primary with your R still fresh, most people study 6-10 weeks. Mosby's Exam Review for Computed Tomography is the main resource. The sectional anatomy questions are where people lose the most points so focus there.

400 clinical CT hours is solid for the exam. The post-primary CT is harder than the primary R in some ways because it assumes you know the fundamentals and tests application. Give yourself at least 8 weeks.
