CSLLP vs CISSP — which one first if you work in software security?

I'm a software security engineer with 6 years experience, strong background in secure SDLC, threat modeling, and code review. I've been debating between pursuing CSLLP or CISSP as my next certification. Budget and study time only allow for one right now.

From what I understand CSLLP is more focused on software security specifically while CISSP is broader. My work is 90% application security so CSLLP seems more relevant — but CISSP seems to carry more name recognition in job postings.

Anyone hold both? Which one had more impact on your career trajectory?

If you're staying in AppSec specifically, CSLLP is more directly useful day-to-day. The content maps much closer to actual software security work. But if you want flexibility to move into broader security management roles, CISSP first makes more sense.

Held both for 3 years now. CISSP opened more doors in terms of job offers and salary negotiations — the brand recognition is just much higher. CSLLP knowledge is excellent but fewer hiring managers know what it is.

Do CISSP first, use it to get the role you want, then add CSLLP. That's what most people in AppSec seem to do and it's worked out well for them.
