Applied for my California C-10 electrical contractor license through CSLB. I have my journey-level experience verified and my application is approved. Now I need to pass the trade exam plus the law and business exam. The L&B exam is what I'm most focused on right now since the trade content should come naturally after 14 years in the field.
How long did you study for the CSLB Law and Business exam and what resources actually helped?

The L&B exam is harder than most electricians expect because it covers contract law, lien rights, workers comp, and business practices — topics most field guys haven't studied. Give yourself 6 weeks minimum. The CalContractors practice tests were the most useful resource I found.

The trade exam is multiple choice and straightforward for someone with your experience. The L&B is the real hurdle. Don't underestimate it because you've been a licensed electrician for years — the business and legal content is genuinely different from field knowledge.

Focus heavily on mechanics lien procedures and timelines — those questions are detailed and unforgiving. Also know the insurance requirements cold: workers comp limits, liability insurance minimums, etc.
