CSL license application in California — how long is the wait right now?

Applied for my Contractors State License Board exam about 7 weeks ago and still waiting for my authorization to test letter. I've heard everything from 6 weeks to 6 months depending on who you ask. My application is complete — all background check paperwork submitted, experience verified, everything.

Is the wait time this inconsistent for everyone? I need this license to bid on a specific project and every week of delay is costing me. Already passed my PSI practice tests and feel ready to go, just can't schedule without the ATT.

Any tips for following up with CSLB without ending up in phone tree purgatory?

Email actually gets faster responses than phone in my experience. Include your application number and a specific question. Vague emails get form responses, specific ones get actual answers.

Current wait is running about 8-10 weeks from what I've seen in the forums. Call CSLB at exactly 8am — the hold times are much shorter at opening. Have your application number ready.

Once you get the ATT you have a year to test so no rush after that. The hard part is just the initial wait. Good luck on the exam — the law and business sections are where most people trip up.
