Finally passed CSCU after two attempts — here's what actually worked

So I just got my results this morning and I'm honestly still in shock — passed with a 78% after failing my first attempt back in March with a 64%. I work in IT support for a mid-size company and my manager basically said I needed this cert to move into a security analyst role, so the pressure was real. The first time I studied mostly from EC-Council's official courseware and thought that was enough. Spoiler: it was not.

What actually made the difference this round was finding a solid CSCU practice test that mimicked the real question style. The official material covers the concepts but doesn't prepare you for how they word things on the actual exam — especially the social engineering and cloud security modules. I also grabbed a CSCU study guide from a third-party provider that broke down wireless security and safe browsing way more clearly than the official docs.

Anyone else here prepping right now? Happy to share specific exam tips that helped me focus on the right domains. The identity theft and data loss prevention sections caught me off guard the first time — worth spending extra time there.

Congrats! I'm three weeks out from my attempt and this is exactly what I needed to hear. I've been relying too heavily on just reading the courseware. Which domains did you find were most heavily tested? I keep hearing the data encryption section is brutal but my practice scores are actually strongest there — wondering if I'm missing something elsewhere.

The question wording thing is so real. I passed on my first try but I went in having done probably 400+ practice questions across different platforms. You start to recognize the logic they're going for even when the scenario is new. Also — don't sleep on the safe internet usage module. Sounds basic but there are some genuinely tricky questions buried in there that tripped up people in my study group.

Two attempts and you stuck with it — that's the mindset. My exam is next month and I'm aiming for at least a 75. Did you set a daily study hour goal or just go by feel? I've been doing 90 minutes a night but not sure if that's enough with a full-time job.
