Finally passed CREST CRT after two attempts — here is what helped

So I just got my results back and I'm officially CREST Registered Tester certified. Honestly didn't think I'd make it after failing the first attempt back in February — that one stung. The written paper caught me off guard because I focused almost entirely on the practical side and completely neglected the vulnerability assessment theory sections.

What turned things around for me was actually building a proper study guide instead of just reading through the syllabus and hoping something would stick. I broke it down by domain — infrastructure, web app, enumeration techniques — and spent about 6 weeks going deep on each one. I also started doing a CREST practice test every weekend to get comfortable with the format and identify where my knowledge was still shaky. Timed conditions matter more than people realize.

Happy to share more specifics if anyone's preparing right now. The exam tips I picked up from this community and a few Discord servers made a real difference in how I approached the second sitting. What stage are you guys at with your prep?

Congrats mate, seriously. I'm sitting mine in about 8 weeks and the written paper is exactly what I'm most nervous about. Did you find the vulnerability knowledge sections overlapped much with CEH material or is it a completely different beast? I've got a solid pentesting background but the formal exam structure is throwing me off a bit.

The timed practice test point is something I wish someone had drilled into me before my first attempt. I knew the content well enough but I was spending way too long on certain questions and running out of time on others I could've answered easily. Pacing is genuinely its own skill. What resources did you use for the written portion specifically? I've been struggling to find good exam tips for that section beyond the official CREST documents.

This is the post I needed today. Just booked my first attempt for July and I've been second-guessing my prep constantly. Knowing someone came back from a fail and passed is weirdly reassuring. Going to sort out a proper structured study guide this weekend instead of just grinding labs.

@sarah, Can you please share your whole experience and where you practiced? I have booked my exam on june 27th, Currently im practicing the HTB CREST CRT track. Is this really useful? When i checked syllabus and sample questions in crest platform, it looks like similar to HTB guided mode. Is this exactly same mode or i Misunderstood? can you please reply for me asap, it would be more helpful for my preparation. Thank you for your review.
