Failed CRD exam twice — what finally helped me pass on third attempt

I've been trying to get my CRD certification for almost a year now and honestly I was starting to think it just wasn't going to happen for me. Failed with a 68 my first time, then a 71 second time — both below the 75 passing score. I work full-time in dietary services so studying around my schedule has been brutal.

What finally clicked was ditching the textbook-only approach. I started doing a CRD practice test every single day for three weeks straight, then reviewing every wrong answer in detail instead of just moving on. The practice questions exposed gaps I didn't even know I had, especially in foodservice systems management and MNT for renal patients — two areas I thought I had down cold.

Passed with an 82 last month. If you're prepping right now, I genuinely think consistent practice testing beats passive reading. Happy to share what my study breakdown looked like if anyone wants it.

The renal MNT stuff is no joke — that tripped me up on my first attempt too. One of the best exam tips I got from a colleague was to focus hard on the case-study style questions because those make up a bigger chunk than people expect. Also don't sleep on community nutrition and program management, I under-studied both and it cost me points. Good luck to everyone still in the middle of it.

This is so encouraging, thank you for sharing. I'm scheduled for mine in 6 weeks and the MNT section is killing me too. I've been using a CRD study guide that breaks it down by domain but I keep second-guessing myself on the clinical calculations. How many practice questions were you doing per day? I've been doing maybe 20-30 but wondering if I need to push that higher.

Congrats on passing! 82 is a solid score. I passed last fall and honestly the daily practice test habit was the single thing that made the difference for me too. Consistency over cramming every time.
