CRC exam prep — realistic study time if you have 10 years in residential construction?

I've been a licensed general contractor in Florida for about a decade and I'm finally pushing myself to get the CRC designation. I assumed field experience would make this straightforward, but the business and project management portions of the study material are humbling me. My current practice scores are around 65–68% and the exam is in nine weeks.

The construction science and methods sections feel like second nature, but the contract law, lien rights, and OSHA compliance questions are pulling my average down hard. I've been doing about an hour of review daily after work, which might not be enough. Anyone who passed recently have a sense of how many total hours they put in?

I'm also unclear on whether the exam content varies significantly by state or if it's standardized nationally through NASCLA. My Florida license renewal material has covered some of this, but I'm not sure how much overlap there actually is with what shows up on test day.

Any advice on which resources are worth the money? I've seen the Contractors Exam Center study packages but at $300+ I want to be sure they're actually worth it before committing.

The exam is NASCLA-based so it's largely standardized, but Florida-specific statutes do show up. Make sure your study materials include Florida building code references and contractor licensing law — generic national content won't cover those fully.

65–68% at nine weeks out is recoverable but you need to increase your daily study time. I'd push to 90 minutes minimum on weekdays and a 3-hour block on weekends. I went from 69% to 79% practice scores in six weeks by just adding volume — there's no shortcut on the legal content.

I used the Contractors Exam Center materials and thought they were worth it. The practice exams felt close to the real thing in terms of question style. If $300 feels steep, look for their individual module packages — I only bought the law and business sections since I didn't need help with the technical content.

I passed the CRC with about 80 hours of total study time spread over ten weeks. I also have a decade in the field and the construction methods questions were easy, but contract law and lien procedures took real dedicated study. Don't assume field experience translates to those sections.
