Finally passed CPPB after two attempts — here's what actually helped

So I passed the CPPB last Tuesday and I'm still kind of in shock. Failed my first attempt back in February by 11 points — devastated doesn't even cover it. I work in public procurement for a mid-size county government and my supervisor basically pushed me to get certified, so failing felt really personal.

What changed the second time around was being way more strategic. I stopped just reading the UPPCC handbook cover to cover and started working through a solid CPPB practice test bank to figure out where I was actually weak. Turns out my blind spots were competitive bidding thresholds and ethics scenarios — stuff I thought I knew but couldn't apply under pressure. I also found a study guide that broke down the five domains with weighted percentages, which helped me prioritize my last four weeks of prep.

For anyone in the middle of this: the exam is much more situational than I expected. They're not testing memorization, they're testing judgment. Happy to share specifics on what resources I used if anyone wants to compare notes.

Congratulations! This gives me so much hope. I'm sitting for mine in September and the ethics domain is killing me too. I've been averaging around 68% on practice questions in that section and I need at least 75% to feel confident going in. Did you find any particular exam tips for the situational questions, or was it just repetition until the logic clicked?

The situational question thing is so real. I passed on my first try last year but I went in expecting a memorization test like some of my other certs and almost got burned. What saved me was reading each answer choice and asking myself which one a textbook procurement officer would choose, not what I'd actually do in real life. Those two things are sometimes very different, lol.

Passed 3 months ago after a 90-day study plan — 45 minutes every morning before work. Consistency beat cramming every time for me. The practice tests are non-negotiable. You have to get comfortable with the format before test day.
