Taking the CPP in about 6 weeks and trying to figure out if I'm on track. I've been putting in roughly 2 hours a day going through the IPI study guide but some of the financial management sections are brutal. I scored 65% on my first full practice test which felt discouraging considering I've worked in parking operations for 3 years.
The sections I'm struggling with most are technology systems and the financial/legal content. The day-to-day operational stuff is fine, but the exam seems to weight the business side heavily. Has anyone noticed that going in with field experience doesn't help as much as you'd expect on those sections?
I've heard the format is 150 questions in 3 hours. Is the time actually tight or do most people finish with room to review? And are there any specific topics I should really double down on in the final two weeks?
65% at 6 weeks out is workable. I scored around that on my first practice run and ended up passing with an 81% on the real exam after three more weeks of focused review. The financial sections tripped me up too — I made flashcards for every formula in the IPI guide and that helped more than re-reading the chapters.
Time wasn't a problem for me — finished with about 35 minutes left. The technology section has gotten more detailed recently, specifically around parking guidance systems and LPR integration. Make sure you know the difference between the major system types and their use cases.
The operations and customer service sections are the highest-yield since they carry the most weight. Don't neglect the legal and ADA compliance questions though — there were more of those than I expected and they're easy points if you study them.
I passed on my second attempt after failing by 4 points the first time. What finally clicked was doing timed sets of 50 questions instead of just reviewing content. Getting used to the pacing matters more than people realize going in.
